It all started with five fields in the valley, which were clearly visible from the surrounding heights
Bihor is inseparable from Petnjica, because Petnjica is located in its valley. And Bihor, according to tradition, was named after a handful of blossom (behar) that somehow covered the whole area in the spring. So far, it is known that Bihor was first mentioned around 1450, in Dubrovnik trade documents. According to the old Bihor inhabitants, Petnjica, as the central part, was named before the arrival of the Turk-s in this area. It was named after the Five Fields (Pet njiva), which were clearly visible from the surrounding heights. Namely, the center of the Petnjica area consists of as many as 25 villages in upper Bihor. In the past, the Municipality of Berane belonged to Gornji Bihor, and Bijelo Polje to the lower. The Bihor chaplet is huge, with natural potentials, pastures, mountains and forests, perfect for agricultural development. The geology of the terrain of Gornji Bihor is diverse. Typical glacial and karst relief, enriched with volcanic rocks. At the time of the formation of the Dinarides, this area was also created in the Eocene and Oligocene. Today's Petnjica, in addition to its rich history, is creating its new, tourist map. Petnjica also lives through events - Days of Emigrants, Alpine Muse and Bihor Cultural Summer.
